The Educational Community Center is the physical expression of a dream LA VIDA carries for the people of San Juan de Oriente. It is a place where education, growth, relationships, fun and mutual giving and receiving come together. Free to the public, the center serves as the educational hub for the people of San Juan de Oriente and attracts up to 300 participants each day. Over the first six months of 2007, the center had more than 12,000 visits from both students and adults in the community.  This project, called La Esquina del Aprendizaje, was started in early 2005 to provide educational resources to local students and teachers, while creating a central location to develop programs that will serve the entire community. Due to the lack of funds allocated to schools in Nicaragua, teachers and students do not have access to even the most basic materials, including books, writing supplies, and paper. The center provides textbooks, reading materials, and art supplies for the entire community, as approximately 90% of the teachers and students in San Juan de Oriente attend programs at the center each week.
